HIV AIDS
The purpose of this course is to update healthcare professionals on current trends and treatments of the human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) and acquired immune deficiency syndrome (AIDS).
This course is designed so that the healthcare professional will be able to:
- describe HIV/AIDS,
- discuss how HIV affects the immune system,
- identify ways HIV is transmitted,
- identify methods to prevent transmission of HIV,
- discuss the most up to date treatments of HIV/AIDS, and
- describe how HIV is being prevented and treated in children
- HIV kills and damages cells of the body's immune system by destroying the body's ability to fight infections and certain cancers. You cannot get AIDS without first having HIV. AIDS is the end stage of HIV infection.
